THE BEST WINTER TIME SHUTER IS A SHUTTER THAT WILL STAY CLOSED AND THAT IS THE BUTTER FLY SHUTTER.

TEST WORK OF THE PAST HAS TOLD US A 5 TO 7 MPH WIND WOULD REDUCE THE EXHAUST BY 25%. A 15 MPH WIND WOULD REDUCE THE EXHAUST BY 50 %.

A 30 MPH WIND WOULD REDUCE THE EXHAUST TO A VERY LARGE ELECTRIC BILL PER CFM EXHAUSTED, AND THE FAN SALESMAN STILL TALKS ABOUT THE CFM THE FAN COULD GET IN THE TEST LAB. THE FAN MANUFACTURES HAVE ALREADY SHOT FROM THE HIP, TELLING US THAT THEIR FAN WITH THE FUNNEL WILL STILL TEST MORE CFM IN THE TEST LAB. I THINK THAT IS TRUE, EVEN ONE CFM WOULD BE LESS, BUT 10 % WOULD BE LESS THAN 25 OR 50% LOSS WITH DIRTY SHUTTERS OR WIND BLOWEN ON THE SHUTTERS. THE HIGH TEST LAB EXHAUST HAS ALWAYS GIVE WAY TO POOR CONDITIONS AND ALLOWED YOUR PROFIT TO BE EXHAUSED IN WET CONDITIONS, DEATH LOSS AND HIGH UTILITIES.

THE FIRST UNITS MOUNTED ON A IOWA LAYER HOUSE GAVE US GREAT ENTHUSIASM FOR THE NEW DIVERTER. THE FIRST MOMENT WIND FROM THE NW TO A NORTH SIDED BUILDING SHOWED A LARGE ADVANTAGE. WIND OF ONLY 5 MPH CHARGED THE FUNNEL FAN WITH THE BUTTERFLY SHUTTER SPREADING THE SHUTTERS APART APROX 12” INCREASING THE PRESSURE ON THE FAN AND REDUCING ITS EXHAUST ABILITY. AFTER SEEING THE UNPROTECTED FAN AND ITS TEST LAB CFM BEING REDUCED WE LOOKED IN SIDE THE DIVERTER TO OBSERVE ITS PREFORMANCE. THE FAN WITH THE DIVERTER ALLOWED THE SHUTTERS TO BE BLOWN FULLY OPEN AND TOUCHING IN THE CENTER. MAITENANCE PEOPLE HAVE SINCE TOLD OF THE DAYS AFTER WHEN THE WIND GUSTED TO 30+ MPH AND THE FUNNEL FAN WITH BUTTERFLY SHUTTER BLEW SHUT UNDER FULL POWER, AND THE DIVERTER WORKED AS THERE WAS NO WIND. WE ARE NOT PREPARED TO SAY THAT THE DIRVERTER WILL PRODUCE EQUAL TO THE FUNNEL FAN IN A TEST LAB. IF SOMETIME HIGH EXHAUST IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU, SO BE IT. THE DIVERTER MAY COST A EXTRA FAN IN SOME CASES TO REACH A ENGINEERED CFM, BUT WE KNOW WHEN THERE IS NO EXTREME HEAT YOU WILL HAVE MANY LESS FANS RUNNING WITH THE DIVERTER IN USE.

MAINTAINING A AVERAGE VENTILATION SYSTEM 24/7 IS NOT ALL THE ADVANTAGES YOU RECEIVE WHEN YOU BUY THE DIVERTER. “ALL IN ONE YOU GET” REDUCED HOURS OF LIGHT CONTROL, ODOR CONTROL, LESS MAITENANACE [COSTLY MOTORS, BELTS AND LABOR], MORE EFFECIENT HEAT AND ELECTRIC BILLS.
